“Teen Titans Go! to the Movies” trailer is finally out. We first heard about the film last September, and its story last December 2017. Now, audiences will get to see what’s in store for them. The film stars the characters from the TV show “Teen Titans Go!”, and is produced by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation in association with Cartoon Network. The movie tells audiences about the Titans’ quest to find a stellar director that will help them make their own blockbuster movie after they realize they’ve been largely ignored. Why shouldn’t they? Even  the villains starred in their own flick.

True to Teen Titans’ deprecating style of humor, much like some funny gifts, the trailer introduces the plot by poking fun at DC’s box office performance from the start to end. It begins by showing all the Titans except Robin donning costumes of Wonder Woman, DC’s most successful hero, at least by silver screen standards. All of them praise her, except Robin, who is bent on talking about themselves and their own movie. After all, superpowers, gadgets, and costumes are secondary to starring in your own superhero movie, something which Robin also mentions. It also uses superlatives (“It’s the Super Hero Movie to End All Super Hero Movies”) that takes a jab at Superman’s “greatest superhero” reputation and DC’s wishful thinking to lead in the superhero film genre (“Hopefully.”). Even classic Aquaman gets a cameo in this trailer (A cartoon version of Jason Momoa would have been more accurate).

We have yet to see where this brand of satirical self-referential humor takes Robin, Beastboy, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire. Will it appeal to children and adults alike, or will only superhero genre fanatics find delight in it? Will it make them box-office superheroes just like Wonder Woman? Hopefully, especially since they’re facing very tough competition in the summer (Solo and Avengers: Infinity War). Or will it gain them lukewarm reception as the villains did? Hopefully not.

“Teen Titans Go! to the Movies” will be shown in theatres” beginning the 27th of July, 2018. It stars Will Arnett, Kristen Bell, Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Khary Peyton, Tara Strong, and Hynden Walsh. The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Peter Rida Michail.
