Stan Lee’s passing did not come as a shock to many in the comic book and film industry. But it caused a lot of sadness.
One of the most remarkable things that happened was that it brought comic book artists together, with each paying tribute to the legend.
Here are a few of the notable tributes from comic book legends and executives outside of Marvel:
Tributes to Stan Lee from the Comic Book World
DC Comics
He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan.

DC Comics writer, television show and movie producer Geoff Johns also penned a personal tribute to Lee, complete with a classic photo with Hulk and Spider-Man:
“And now, until we meet again, may the blessings of Asgard be showered upon you!” – Stan Lee, Balder the Brave
Thank you for sharing your genius and your heart with the world, Stan. pic.twitter.com/uMjipTmyY6

Jim Lee, co-publisher of DC, also posted a very touching story about how Lee inspired him:
RIP @TheRealStanLee He made everyone feel like a kid in his presence no matter what your age. pic.twitter.com/JYeWXq8iKb

Andrew Wheeler, editor at Shout Out Comic, posted very poignant words from Stan himself.

Mark Millar
Millarworld creator Mark Millar narrates how instrumental Stan was in the creation of his Wanted comic. In fact, he says that without Lee’s advice, he wouldn’t have worked on all three: Wanted, Kick-Ass, and Kingsman.
Stan Lee changed my life not once but twice. First when I was a kid and realised the superheroes I loved in comic-books and on TV could actually be a job. Then he did it again when I was working at Marvel and he convinced to start my Millarworld company.

Without Stan’s advice, I’d never have written Wanted, Kick-Ass, Kingsman or all my other franchises. There would have been no big Netflix deal last year. Without his stories when I was wee I doubt I’d have even picked up a pen.

Neil Gaiman
Neil Gaiman did not write a personal tribute but defended Stan against Bill Maher’s rude comments which were uncalled for.
Maher’s just trolling, and lots of people are rising to the troll. (Julie Burchill did it better 30 years ago with her “There aren’t any adult comics because adults don’t read comics” line. ) More people cared about Stan Lee’s death than care about Bill Maher alive. https://t.co/yRzFCYQBzl
